The Sisters of the Order of the Hearth are pleased to participate in an Outreach Program that offers hand-knitted items to Heathens who ask for assistance. Because learning to knit is one of the tasks required in the study program of the Order, every Sister knows how to create clothing for herself, her family, and her community. Sharing that skill is a pleasure for the Sisters, who consider it not only a sharing of necessary material things, but also a sharing of friendship, and a hand across the miles that spearate us from others who need us, but might not realize that we are here. We invite you to join this Outreach effort with us.
Here is a Woodlands Hat, using washable acrylic mixed yarns, and a leather trim. Slightly sloppy and elvish, but warm and cuddly.
You don't have to knit large items. In fact, it's great to knit the same item in a variety of colors and sizes, if you prefer.
If you feel ambitious, add woodlands sweater jacket (below). This is a popular waist-length, cropped jacket which is great over a longer turtleneck, e.g.
And leg warmers are not just for ballerinas! Here are some cozy ones in fall colors! They fit anybody over the age of 10.
Don't stop here. How about baby blankets, or hats, or socks? Scarves in all sizes and mittens too. Slippers. Ski hats.
Add a personal greeting card to express how you feel about making your item, and what you wish for the recipient!
Finally, wrap it up and include something with it, if you wish: perhaps a coloring book or a small toy for a child, a bib or maybe a creeper, a child's book; and if for an adult, you could include some organic handcream samples or maybe a Vitamin E lipbalm.
Contact one of our Sisters at Aauriane@aol.com for specific instructions on which organizations are accepting donations. Mail the entire package (single or multiple items).
Using a super-cuddly slubbed black yarn, one Sister made this ultra-soft black cropped sweater with deep cuffs.
