Each Sister, while part of the Order, maintains a separate identity.
The Original Sisters of the Dark Moon

The Sisters of the Dark Moon came from many backgrounds, but essentially, all were engaged in pantheistical practices.. Some were herbalists, some worked with various healing arts learned in other days and circumstances, and some were women dedicated to aspects of The Mother that represented the Hearth and Home.  The Sisters came together to exchange information and to enjoy the arts learned before the hearth.

As time went on, they discovered that each Sister had a wealth of knowledge to contribute to the group, and so they thought about how they might share that knowledge in an organized and consistent way. Later on, they saw a need for the wider Heidan community to be supported by what they knew. Eventually, they outlined what they considered basic knowledge of the group, and what they perceived would be prerequisite for any priestess, regardless of which Tradition or Heten demomination to which she belonged.

Finally, the Sisters felt compelled to establish an Order of the Hearth,. They consulted with other Sisterhoods, compared ideas, and decided that their methods of acquiring knowledge were compatible.

They felt that the Sisters were also capable of serving the wider Heiden community as  knowledgeable and reliable priestesses, and that if any of them sought the formality of an ordination by other organizations that would require proof of studies, that the credential would be hard won.

The Sisterhood, while it acquires knowledge in a specified way, allows for individual interpretation.
